A big whiff of dark raspberry and blueberry plus cassis, anise and vanilla leads off. Taste a a big basket of mixed summer berries with a supporting cast of cedar, roast red peppers and toasty oak. 20 second finish of berries, pomegranate and sweet earth. Medium acidity, medium/low oak and smooth tannins make this a more refreshing style of Cabernet that’s ready to drink anytime. For home consumption, you can buy a case of this for well under $30/bottle I’m sure. Also look for it in nicer restaurants by the glass and well-priced by the bottle.
About Casaeda Winery
Casaeda founder Karen Culler sold the winery in 2012 but continues to be the winemaker. This is great news…she is so good at making wine. All Oak Knoll District fruit (moderate to cool climate by Napa standards), 7% Merlot. I’m so impressed with this wine before considering price. For $32? Take me, I’m yours.
