MagnaVita Grapewagon Red

MagnaVita Grapewagon Red 2016

This red blend is mostly Zinfandel from Lodi with compliments of Merlot and Lagrein (a grape you see mostly from its Northern Italy homeland). Smell and taste summertime, fresh-picked red berries along with dabs of black tea, dried mushrooms, black pepper and tobacco (unlit nice cigar). Medium acidity and medium/light tannins. Aged briefly in French oak used previously for 3 years, i.e. neutral. This hits the mark of a drink-anytime red blend a la a killer Southern Rhone. Great price for a well-made, unique wine. Alma de Cattleya Chardonnay

ALMA de CATTLEYA Chardonnay 2016

A straightforward citrus, stone fruit and light toast nose introduces you to the Alma de Cattleya Chardonnay. A marriage of lemon oil, fresh pears & green apples, lightly buttered wheat toast and apple butter make a delicious union in the mouth. Medium-full bodied, low oak, lovely fresh fruit and wisps of butter make this a high-quality Chardonnay that everyone will enjoy.   About Alma de Cattleya Cattleya Winery is owned & made by the talented and energetic Bibiana Gonzalez Rave. Alma (Soul) de Cattleya (a type of orchid and the national flower of Columbia, Bibiana’s native country) is her “2nd […]

Obsidian Ridge Cabernet

OBSIDIAN RIDGE Cabernet Sauvignon 15

This is an outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon that has consistently over-delivered for the price since its beginning 20 some years ago. Estate vineyard in Lake County’s Red Hills District. High (half mile) elevation, volcanic soils (thus the name Obsidian Ridge). Deep core of blackberry, black currant and black cherry. The 2015 vintage has a more savory and earthy edge to it, which I like. Notes of bittersweet chocolate, cigar box and a musk/mineral/truffle quality that makes it an ideal dinner companion. It’s difficult for 10,000 case production wines to have soul. This has it.

Post & Vine Field Blend

POST & VINE Old Vine Field Blend 13

Blend is approximately 1/3rd Petite Sirah, 1/3rd Carignane, 1/5th Zinfandel, 1/5th Grenache. 60 year old, head-trained vines in northeast Mendocino County. Co-ferment in classic “field blend” tradition. Neutral French oak aged. Bold flavors of black and blue fruits with integrated black pepper, pie spice, cocoa and anise notes. Medium/low acidity, smooth tannins and restrained (14.0%) alcohol. For a bigger red, this is very easy to drink. Post & Vine Owners/Winemakers Rebekah Wineburg and Erica Kinkaid both have “day jobs” making super-high end (and pricey) Napa Valley Cabernets and such. Post & Vine is their passion-project. I so love this wine, […]
