Dynamite…lemon custard, sweet butter, baked apple nose continues on to the taste along with brioche, roast pears and hazelnut. Bigger style for sure, that said the high quality, cool climate fruit make it fresh and nicely balanced. This holds its own against $60-75 single vineyard Chardonnays from this region.
Gate is Jason Kesner’s (Kesner Wines) 2nd label…it’s a selection of barrels pulled from various single vineyard Chardonnay programs. Made in the real Burgundy style (barrel ferment, full malolactic, some lees stirring, racking only before bottling to remove the lees…interestingly, Jason uses very little new oak in his Chardonnays). The Gate is The Golden Gate Bridge…the label is a close, close, close-up (altered) photograph of the bridge.
