Rhone-style wine specialist Kale Anderson’s Syrah/Grenache blend (about half of each) from the hillside “Kick Ranch” vineyard is outstanding. After just 20 minutes of breathing it shows lots of black pepper, kalamata olives and smoke accessorizing a the rich, ripe dark berry fruits (blackberry, mulberry, blueberry). Expansive in the mouth with fine tannins and a light touch of oak (only 10% new French used), the Kale “Home Run Cuvee” satisfies the desire for a big, spicy red that’s ready to drink now.
15% of the Syrah fermented whole cluster. Aged 20 months in French oak, most previously used. Sadly, this is the last vintage of “Home Run Cuvee.” The brutal fires of 2017 “struck out” the vineyard…planted to other varieties now.
