Very Good Value

All Pope Valley fruit from owner Matt Hardin’s family vineyard. Hearty, deep, structured and supple. First impression is very ripe black cherry and blackberry fruits, then a tasty, intriguing savory earthiness appears. I really like its long happy ending of cinnamon/black olive/gravel. This drinks surprisingly well for a big, young, Cab. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Julien Fayard, winemaker.

More Information

Matt Hardin of Matthew Wallace grew up on Wallace Ranch, the source of this excellent and Very Good Value Napa Cab. A true student of agriculture and viticulture, he moved back to Napa after college and quickly became a partner in Barbour Vineyards, one of Napa’s great vineyard management companies. His expertise combined with winemaker Julien Fayard’s line everything up here. This is a slam dunk recommendation, especially at $55/bottle.

An except from the Matthew Wallace website: After being raised on his family’s farm in Tennessee, George P. Wallace moved west in 1852 to become a cattle rancher in California, and in 1868 purchased 500 acres originally part of the Locoallomi land grant in Napa County. To this day, the Wallace Ranch has been continually farmed to wine grapes and cattle for over 150 years.
