Dark and perfectly ripe berries and cherries infused with warm Indian and baking spices introduce you to the 2017 Tres Sabores “Perspective” Zinfandel. The old, Rutherford Bench “Estate” vines make a complex, deep red wine that transcends the customary definition of Zinfandel. Raspberry and black fig compote are at the core with ample flavors of crushed peppercorns, cocoa powder and (this is because I just brought some home from Mexico) black mole sauce. Medium acidity, supple tannins and perfect balance of fruit, alcohol and extract tells me this will age gracefully for more than ten years.
I adjust my definition of Value on this wine and compare it with Napa Cabernet Sauvignon instead of California Zinfandel. From this perspective, this is a DDWA Great Value.
About Tres Sabores
Julie Johnson’s Rutherford Bench vineyard and winery is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Napa Valley. Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon are grown on the organic estate (along with about a dozen varieties of pomegranates!). I love all the wines. Read all my Tres Sabores recommendations HERE.
